The RERC on AAC will build research and development capacity by training undergraduate and graduate students in AAC research methods, product development, and technology transfer through the following activities:
- Build initial skills in AAC among professionals entering the field
- T1 Capstone Projects – MacNeil, Jakobs
- T2 Owl Hackathon – MacNeil
- T3 AAC Learning Center: The AAC Learning Center is a free educational resource on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). It provides webcasts by AAC users, and AAC researchers and advocates.

- Create collaborative research and development networks across graduate students in rehabilitation engineering and science, and with AAC users
- T4 Hybrid Course in Collaborative and Inclusive Research and Teaching : The Online Seminar & Working Group on “Collaborative and Inclusive Research and Teaching (CIRT) in AAC” is a year-long program designed to develop research and teaching collaborations among the 2026-2027 Fellows and Associates.
